1990, Riga, Latvia
Gabija Birina is a performance artist, dancer, and stylist working at the intersection of ballet, contemporary dance, immersive theatre, and interdisciplinary performance. Trained at the Latvian Ballet School and the Copenhagen National School of Contemporary Dance, she has spent over a decade performing across Europe, the United States, and beyond — from Stockholm and Tel Aviv to Berlin, London, Shanghai, and ART BASEL in Switzerland.
Her collaborators include internationally acclaimed interdisciplinary artist Donna Huanca, and her work spans concert stages, festival circuits, and immersive theatrical experiences. Together with Latvian artists Katrīna Gupaļo and Andrejs Ošiņš, she co-created After Midnight — a crossover jazz-theatre concert that toured 20+ venues across Latvia and earned critical acclaim at the London Camden Fringe Festival. In 2023, Gabija was the lead performer in CARABOOM, an immersive, splash-filled theatrical experience voted #1 Best Attraction of Miami-Dade.
She is currently a performer, stylist, and performance researcher with Space Wonders — contributing to original productions created in weightlessness. The company’s flagship work, PARABOLES, is a multimedia performance developed in microgravity, featured by Space.com, the Associated Press, and The Miami Herald, with a premiere scheduled for 2026/2027.
