Tara O’Neill

Artist Bio

Find award-winning artist Tara O’Neill in historic, mitten-size Goodland, one of the last working fishing villages remaining on Florida’s west coast; a place she describes as being filled with “history, mystery, and endless inspiration.” Born the ninth of ten children to an Irish immigrant father and grammatically-fussy mother, the household balance of runaway creativity and academic structure were paramount in the young artist’s development. O’Neill achieved a BFA in Studio Arts and a BA in Creative Writing through University of South Florida, Tampa, and Oxford University, England. Since then she has continued to stretch her artistic reach by attending artist workshops locally and around the world. Her artwork is in private and corporate collections throughout the United States and Europe and has earned numerous juried awards.

Although most noted for her vivid oil paintings and acrylic murals, O‘Neill is considered a multi- disciplined artist. Exhibitions and public installations include Tampa Museum of Art; Hillsborough

Public Library Fine Art Gallery; Gators Galore and Gators Galore Encore; Marco Island Dolphin Debut; Marco Island Foundation for the Arts; Marco Island Historical Museum; Marco Island Center for the Arts; Naples Art Institute; United Arts Council; Goodland Post Office Mural Project; and Leadership Marco’s Wet Paint Live! She held a solo exhibit, Bodies in Motion, at the Naples Depot Museum in 2020. In 2000, O’Neill garnered the Marco Island Chamber of Commerce Beautification Award for an 80 ft. by 22 ft. mural that sailed around the Island’s municipal water tank; in 2011, the City of Marco Island presented her with its inaugural Arts Afire! Award for individual contribution to the community; and in 2015 she was honored as Artist of the Year by the Marco Island Foundation for the Arts.

O’Neill works out of her Goodland Studio-Gallery and is represented by Blue Mangrove Gallery in Marco‘s Town Center. She is committee chair of the Goodland Arts Alliance; a drawing instructor at the Marco Island Center for the Arts; a founding member of the Cultural Alliance of Marco Island & Goodland. Artist Statement

I endeavor to capture perfect moments, to reveal the extraordinary within the ordinary, and offer them as an antidote to the demands, stress, and technological
overload that permeate modernity. Between the rising and setting of our sun, beguiling shadows shift over sand, sea, and stone; flora and fauna tango; beach buckets fill and empty, and twilight whispers. No two days can ever be the same.

I am always more concerned with how my subject feels than how it appears.
