April 7 @ 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM

Opera Naples Guild invites you to attend the Filmed Operetta Festival 2024 at the Wang Opera Center, with an introductory lecture by your host, Bill Edgerton. Come meet others who share your curiosity and interest in opera, while enjoying classic filmed operettas. A ticket will be required for each event with a suggested donation of $20 per person per performance. All proceeds will benefit Opera Naples education programs. Please select your preferred date and check out online to reserve your seats.

All operettas blend beautiful melodies with comic tales of love denied by class differences, secret identities that thwart romance, and the chaos caused by meddling gods and a persistent seducer. TICKETS
April 7: Countess Maritza by Emmerich Kalman.
This is one of the most famous Kalman work of his 20 operettas and shows off the Austro-Hungarian approach to this musical genre perfectly. Its characters disguise their identities with good intentions, but disastrous outcomes. Sung in German with English subtitles.
April 14: La Belle Helene by Jacques Offenbach.
French composers, led by Offenbach, made a huge contribution to the operetta genre. One of Offenbach’s most well-known works, this is a satirical look at some inept Greek Gods versus outlandish kings on opposite sides of a planned seduction. Sung in French with English Subtitles.
Local operetta expert Bill Edgerton will introduce each, summarizing key aspects of each plot and describing the differences between opera and operetta.
